Find out about how you can secure funding to support ventures that will enable your business to be more energy efficient and environmentally conscious.

Energy for Business Scheme

The capital grant, delivered by the Energy Innovation and Collaboration team through ‘Energy for Business’, is for businesses who wish to improve energy efficiency, reduce greenhouse gas emissions or who are implementing sustainable energy technologies.

Project requirements

  • The minimum cost of the project must be no less than £2,500
  • The maximum cost of the project must be no more than £24,999
  • Businesses must be classified as an SME in Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire or Leicestershire

Grant information

  • This capital funds grant provides 40% of the project cost through match funding, up to a maximum of £10,000
  • Recipients will be chosen by an independent panel in a competitive process, the panel’s decision will be deemed to be final
  • The monies are awarded to successful applicants once the work or purchase is completed
  • No work must be undertaken until confirmation of a successful grant award has been received in writing. We cannot fund expenditure committed prior to confirmation of a grant award.

SHIRE Environment Grant

Do you have a new innovative project that aims to run in a green way? You could be eligible for funding from the SHIRE Environment grant, provided by Leicestershire County Council.

They are particularly interested in projects that meet one or more of the grant scheme outcomes which include:

  • To reduce the amount of household waste produced in Leicestershire
  • To reduce the amount of greenhouse gas emissions within communities
  • To improve biodiversity and support the creation, protection, enhancement and management of sustainable green spaces
  • To raise awareness and understanding on the above outcomes as well as providing necessary training and skills to manage and support projects.

Food and drink manufacturers

Food and drink manufacturers support
If you are a food or drink manufacturer based in Leicestershire you can take advantage of this new service which aims to support your business towards decarbonization.

The Leicester and Leicestershire Enterprise Partnership (LLEP) Growth Hub working in partnership with the Food and Drink Forum who will provide a fully funded, specialist service to support your journey to net zero.

Stage 1: A specialist decarbonisation team will visit your premises to carry out an audit of your food or drink production site. This will give them a better understanding of what you produce, your processes and the possibilities available for working towards zero carbon. (Time = 2 hours).

Stage 2: You will be given an Action Plan tailored to your business which will include a range of suggestions that will have a positive impact on your business and the environment. If additional support is required they will organise this in line with the Action Plan. (Time = 4 hours).

This programme supports businesses, who recognise the health, environmental and financial benefits of encouraging their staff to make commute and in-work journeys by active and sustainable transport.

They can support your business through:

  • Travel Clinics
  • Electric Bike Scheme

Boiler Upgrade Scheme 

The government is providing grants to encourage property owners to install low carbon heating systems such as heat pumps, through the Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS). These grants can help property owners overcome the upfront cost of low carbon heating technologies.

The scheme is open to domestic and small non-domestic properties in England and Wales. It runs from 2022 to 2025.

You can get:

  • £5,000 off the cost and installation of an air source heat pump
  • £5,000 off the cost and installation of a biomass boiler
  • £6,000 off the cost and installation of a ground source heat pump

You can get one grant per property.

Low-emission vehicles

You can get a discount on the price of brand new low-emission vehicles through a grant the government gives to vehicle dealerships and manufacturers. The maximum grant available for cars is £1,500.

The amount of the grant depends on which category the vehicle is in. The 8 categories are:

  • cars
  • wheelchair accessible vehicles
  • motorcycles
  • mopeds
  • small vans
  • large vans
  • taxis
  • trucks

Not all low-emission vehicles will get a grant. Only vehicles that have been approved by the government are eligible for a grant.
